FAB! – ‘Love Is A Battlefield’ (1999)
FAB! (Funky And Bad!) were an Irish girl group, active between 1997-2000. The girls were Adrienne Deegan, Ruth McIntyre, Aileen Melinn and Tara Lynch. Tara’s siblings are brother Shane (Boyzone), twin sisters Keavy and Edele (B*Witched, Barbarellas), and another sister, Naomi (Buffalo G). Phew! Not to be confused with F.A.B. (the studio project responsible for the 1990 dance updates of cult TV theme tunes Thunderbirds, The Prisoner and Singray), this FAB! had a couple of minor UK chart entries, both with the same song, ‘Turn Around’, which hit #76 in 1997 and #59 via a re-release in 1998. In between, there was an album release (‘That’s The Kinda Girl’) and another single, ‘Forever (Not Just Tonight)’, but neither charted. A move from Ireland’s Break Records, to UK based Recognition Records (also home to pop acts Girls@Play and ex-‘Coronation Street’ star, Tracy Shaw) in 1999 brought a new single, a cover of Pat Benatar’s second US million-seller hit, ‘Love Is A Battlefield’. It’s possible this single release was actually withdrawn? It was to be their last either way.
