Nothing To Proove is the debut album from the Birmingham-based Overproof Soundsystem. The sound system consists of Grizzly & Stallion from G-Corp; vocalists for this release were Ras MC T-Weed, Juggla, and the Mighty Magoo on percussion. They were formed in the winter of 2002 at a monthly club night called Overproof (which featured the likes of Blood and Fire, U Brown and 100% Dynamite). During the following summer they hit the road for a series of shows around Germany, including a number of live broadcasts on National Radio and TV stations. The growing profile resulted in further tours of Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Croatia during 2003.The more the outfit toured original ideas developed and their sets became virtually all of their own material. it was time to commit this to tape. During their time off they’ spent long hours in the Elephant House Studio writing and producing the album. The standard had been set by the debut single “Watch What You Put Inna” (a firm favorite of Mr. Scruff and Richard Dorfmeister), and it was an obvious choice as first track on the album. Other highlights include the guest vocals of Kenijah Boothe (son of the legendary Ken Boothe) On “Live It Up Right”, the chilled roots style of “The Plea” (featuring a killer vocal from Ras MC T-Weed with support from Juggla), and the careful reconstruction of Mad Professor’s “Kunte Kinte”. This first LP from the Overproof Soundsystem is a true representation of the crew live. Full of energy, melody and surprises never restricted to one style.
