‘EVOLUTION’
GHETTO PRIEST

REGGAE ROAST RECORDS
CATALOGUE NO: RR004
RELEASE DATE: 4th OCTOBER 2010

Reggae Roast Records are proud to present ‘Evolution’, the exciting new single from Ghetto Priest. Evolution follows the release of the extremely popular debut single ‘Serious’ from The Hempolics. Serious made its way into the record boxes of DJs and radio producers across the UK, with major support from David Rodigan on Kiss100 and Don Letts on 6Music. Evolution is set to follow suit as the Reggae Roast Records label establishes itself as a top quality imprint for exciting new Roots music and remixes.

Stephen Townsend aka Ghetto Priest is one of the most flamboyant and creative performers to have emerged from the UK Reggae scene. He honed his vocal talents and artistic persona around the sound system dances of the early 80s, before beginning his illustrious recording career. In 2004 Ghetto Priest released his critically acclaimed debut album with producer Adrian Sherwood (On U Sound), titled “Vulture Culture”. He then went on to record lead vocals for Dub / Punk / Rock outfit Asian Dub Foundation on their hit album ‘Enemy of the enemy”, touring the globe as the front man of the group, captivating audiences with his powerful vocals and mystical stage presence. He is currently working on his latest album ‘Sacred Ground’ with producer Adrian Sherwood, backed by the legendary Dub Syndicate band. This is scheduled for released in Spring 2011, coinciding with the 30th Anniversary of the On U Sound imprint.

‘Evolution’ is a prime example of Ghetto Priest’s dynamic and emphatic vocal talent. He posses a raw energy and emotion un-matched by many artists of this generation and while constantly pushing at the boundaries of Roots music, his style strongly maintains the essence of his Jamaican heritage. The tracks conscious lyrical content, comments on the turmoils within humanity. It encourages evolution as an alternative to revolution, sending an important and poignant message of peace to the world. This track is a perfect example of how Ghetto Priest’s work can satisfy the body on the dance floor, while at the same time provoke reflection within the minds of his listeners.

Remixes – Dub : Richie Phoe | Dubstep : Rack N Ruin

Richie Phoe’s perfectly balanced Dub remix comes as another one of his trademark productions, which over the years have gained attention from tastemakers and DJs across the globe. Richie has already had substantial success on the radio with his ‘Eye on the Prize’ EP, featuring UK Reggae legend Tippa Irie, achieving BBC radio play from Rob Da Bank, Huw Stephens & Mark Lammar. This remix is set to push his work even further into the spotlight, bringing a deep and dubbed-out aspect to the release.

The second remix is a Junglist-themed Dubstep anthem from rising star Rack N Ruin. His recent remixes for the likes of Nas & Damien Marley and killer debut EP ‘Soundclash’ have gained him massive exposure across the radio waves, with multiple Radio1 plays from the likes of Kissy Sell Out and Ras Kwame. Rack N Ruin transforms Evolution into a hard hitting Dubstep wobbler, bringing it up to the times with a gritty, London warehouse vibe.

Both of these heavy-weight remixes are destined for success both in the clubs and on the radio, continuing the success of these two budding producers recent output. ‘Evolution’ will be released on a limited edition 7″ vinyl, distributed worldwide by Cargo Records. All tracks and remixes will also be available for download from all digital outlets from October 4th 2010.
