Clinton Fearon – Togetherness (7″ & digital)

Horus Records is excited to bring to you a lost gem from Lee “Scratch” Perry’s Black Ark Studio that was active in 1970’s Kingtston, Jamaica.

Clinton Fearon is most widely known as vocalist and bass player for one of reggae’s greatest bands – The Gladiators – but he did also put out a few of his own productions. This is one of those, recorded at none other than the Black Ark Studio, run by ‘The Upsetter’ (a.k.a. Lee Perry).

Togetherness highlights the strength of Clinton’s songwriting and production skills. ‘I think Scratch gave me the time for free’ he recalls, ‘… but I played a lot of music for him!’ This was certainly the case considering how many sessions Clinton would have played on at the Black Ark, for the likes of producer-extraordinaire Yabby You and of course Scratch’s own productions.

The original pressing of Togetherness was released on the Sky-High label in 1974, Jamaica. Digitally restored from an original copy of the Sky-High vinyl, both sides of the 7″ were mastered to the usual impeccable standards by Kevin Metcalfe at The Soundmasters, London.

UK label Horus was created in May 2013 by two young guys from the south England countryside. Since then, the label has moved to London where it has quickly gained recognition from the likes of David Rodigan, Mr Scruff, Dom Servini (Wah Wah 45s) and Robert Luis (Tru Thoughts) for it’s releases.
