STEVE BECKER – War
Forwarding along with another Collar Records banger! Once again featuring the slick production of Leroy “Badness” Pennicott with another forgotten track this time by Steve Becker titled “War. In the early 80’s Leroy Pennicott was one of the back-bone members for Augustus Pablo’s Rockers All-Stars playing rhythm guitar and bass on hundreds of recordings, and even touring extensively around the globe. He was also an instrumental force behind many of the early 80’s High Times recordings with Earl Chinna Smith. Always humble and preferring to stay out of the lime light, the multi-skilled Pennicott under the guidance of Pablo and Chinna lead a natural progression to producing. Pennicott first teamed up with long time friend Steve Becker, who go back from youth days in the Greenwich Farm community of Kingston. in 1987 Pennicott asked former band leader Pablo if his first production could be released under the Rockers imprint, to which Pablo happily agreed and helped finance the project. As Pennicott recalls “War” was written as a response and social commentary about the strife and dangers of their surroundings, and being just as relevant if not more in 2018. Earth shattering rhythm remastered from the sources available through TRS Records.
