Produced and recorded in Kingston on Nazamba’s yard, which he converted into a makeshift studio during Rico’s last trip to Jamaica, this track is a hymn to the bold and the fearless.
Whether it’s having to to work twice as hard, having to constantly hurdle the obstacles of the patriarchy, or just to defy stereotypes, women are always battling for their place in the world. Whether it’s via a full-frontal assault, or subtle manoeuvring, a woman always has to fight for her right to live on her own terms.
Tapped in 2019 by Riddim Magazine as one to watch, Aza Lineage is also the protégée of legendary producer King Jammy. Inspired by reggae, hip hop, R & B and of course, sound system culture, she’s committed to decoding the roots of the genre, walking in the footsteps of the greats: Dennis Brown, Bounty Killa, Beenie Man, The Fugees…
Her way of honouring and continuing the legacies of reggae and dancehall’s movers and shakers is rooted in reaching out, making true ‘heartical connections’. It’s the logical continuation of her own philosophy of total self awareness, self acceptance and self love.
