Democracy creates an illusion of freedom and choice, in truth, any influence we once held over the governance of our lives and homes is insidiously plucked away by our governments and our government’s governors. In this era, conspiracy theories are no longer theories, it’s now common knowledge that our elected politicians are directed by unelected corporations. The laws that corporations influence, or in many cases, write, through lobbying and various other sinister activities are not created for the betterment of the people or the planet, but rather to increase profits and diminish regulation. Who are the chief influencers and lawmakers? Financials, Retail, Agriculture, Automotive, Healthcare, Pharmaceuticals and above all, Energy. 6 out of 10 of the world’s largest companies by revenue are “supermajors” (big oil). Most experts agree that the greatest threat to human survival is climate change. The overwhelming majority of climate scientists all agree that the rising global temperatures we’ve recently experienced are due to human activity, specifically, the burning of fossil fuels and deforestation. So we are literally being ruled by the very people who have created and are perpetuating the greatest threat to humanity. But we are all part of this system and we are the ones propping it up. Obviously something has to change. They will not step down, so we must starve them out. Self sufficiency and sustainable living en masse is in direct conflict and an existential risk to the supermajors. If they will not allow us to define the system, then we have no choice but to defy the system.
