Technician² – ‘Playing With The Boy (Level 1)’ (1992)

One for the gamers! ‘Playing With The Boy’ was a techno/dance single by Technician², released off the back of a TV advertising campaign for Nintendo’s handheld computer games console Gameboy, in 1992. On the MCA label, vocals were performed by Georgia Lewis, who can also be heard singing on releases by Clock, Kim Wilde and others. Spending just the one week on the UK singles chart, with a peak position of #70 in November ’92, it was abruptly ‘game over’ for the project. If you like this sort of thing, there are many more dance tracks based around old video games. Pac Man, Super Mario Bros., Street Fighter, Sonic The Hedgehog, Tetris, Lemmings, Mega-Lo-Mania and more tried to crossover to the dance floor and pop charts, with varying degrees of success.
