Tek 9: The Attack, Theme & F.U. (Reinforced, 1993)

Surprised it’s actually taken me several months to toss up a Reinforced track up on here. It’s actually getting pretty tough to find anything on that label that isn’t already on youtube to begin with! Either way, here’s a lesser known release on this imprint: Tek 9’s “Breakin’ Sound Barriers” EP. Although this is a 3-tracker, the two tracks on side 2 are fairly short so I decided to include both of them here as they are fairly different from one another. “The Attack” is a dark breakbeat hardcore roller that is fairly simple in structure; however it’s nice sounding pads and drums programmed tighter than the drawstring on a disposed garbage bag make me wonder why it’s only 3 minutes long. Theme & F.U. is a great 90 bpm hip hop workout, instantly illustrating Tek 9’s versatility. This track is LOADED with samples from well known hip hop tracks from that era, how many can you identify?
