DJ Rock – Skin Up

Unusual early jungle tune by DJ Rock, from late summer 1993

A mini-anthem for a very short time, I remember two weeks down at Lazerdrome hearing this being played by every DJ in their set! The tune is unusual in that it features a long and drawn out breakdown at the beginning of the track, with a very disconcerting & paranoid vibe. But good breaks & catchy melody shine through. I picked up my copy from Blackmarket Records shortly after, where copies flew out of the shop on the strength of this single track! Listed A2 on the label but perceivedly the last track in (as featured on the ‘credits’ side), this unusual tune disappeared without trace, only to be remembered now.

A protégé of Original DJ Vibes, this is taken from the first of 2 EP’s attributed to the artist, however label credits do namecheck him on a couple of other releases by Original Vibes.
