Rude Boy / Maniak Jack – Bug Kann & The Plastic Jam (Joy FM 1992). This was recorded off Joy FM, a West Midlands pirate radio station, in 1992. The signal was picked up 70 miles away in Symonds Yat West by the borders of South Wales. Joy had a powerful transmission as you can hear from some of the requests coming from Worcestershire and South East Birmingham. This was the point where I started to lose interest in heavy breaks and started listening more to house again. Brilliant track though, images are just West Mid’s estates.

Such was the proliferation of pirates on West Midlands air waves around this time, you could tune into a station that was “bleeding” into a local rival, within weeks only one would remain and I actually heard one pirate station closed down live on air by another. Classic FM, stole a large section of West Midlands pirate airwaves around the early 90s as it was legal and a strong signal.
