Cutty Ranks – The Stopper (Main Attraction Remix)
Yet another great remix by Nino (Terry Jones) who already had produced the excellent “The Gun” and “The Future Of Latin” in 1992.
This remix of Acen’s fantastic “Window In The Sky” has an interesting blend of dark tones to start the track with a ragga “rude boy” sample which then blends into a happier vibe of bouncy piano keys over chugging fast paced breakbeats and soulful vocals. Oddly enough the darkness then comes back and the track becomes a Darkside Jungle tune for a while before hearing a pitched up Cutty Ranks sample (“lickwood means rewind the gunshot means forward, you requested it so we rewind”) and the track goes back to the bouncy happy vibe once again.
I’ve still never heard another track that shifts tones like this since this track was made. It’s pretty cool because 1993 was the year Jungle took over from Hardcore and this track incorporates both styles equally and with devastating effect.
This upload comes from the Acen CD “75 Minutes” which was a compilation of his earlier output released on Production House in the UK. This CD was released with little fanfare in the USA and outside of the underground was way under the radar. These days it is highly sought after.
I have included images from the CD booklet artwork and the original UK vinyls from where these tracks originally came from.
